Game Contents
1 carrying crate
12 numbered pins (1-12)
1 throwing skittle

Overview
Players take turns tossing the throwing “skittle” underhand toward the numbered pins. The goal of the game is to be the first player or team to reach 50 points. You would think more pins means more points, but that’s not always the case in MÖLKKY.

Setup

  • Mark a throwing line with the MÖLKKY crate or another object.

  • Walk off 10 to 12 feet (~4 big steps) between the throwing line and the pins.

  • Arrange the pins in the formation and order shown here.

Teams
Typically in MÖLKKY each person plays individually. If you have a larger group (more than 4 or 5 people), it can take a long time to finish the game, and there are lots of scores to track. Try playing as teams of 2 or 3 people and simply alternate who throws the skittle when it’s your team’s turn. Tip: You can also use teams to balance the skill levels if needed.

Player Order
Randomly select the throwing order for the first game. In subsequent games, the throwing order follows the previous game’s score totals from lowest to highest.

How To Play

  • On your turn, toss the skittle underhand toward the pins.

  • Accuracy and precision is more important than knocking over lots of pins.

    • Knocking down only one pin will earn you the number of points written on that pin (Example: Knock over only the #11 pin = 11 points).

    • Knocking down multiple pins will earn you points equal to the count of fallen pins (Example: Knock over the #10, #7, & #4 = 3 pins = 3 points).

      • You ignore the values written on the pins in this case.

  • Add your points for this turn to your total score.

  • When your turn is over, stand each pin back up in the spot where it came to rest.

  • The pins will begin to spread out as the game progresses, allowing you to aim for individual pins with bigger scores.

  • Winning the game: Your goal is to score a total of exactly 50 points.

    • If your toss accidentally takes you past 50 points, your score drops back to 25 points.

Other Rules & Notes

  • A pin has fallen if it is completely horizontal on the ground. Pins that are partially supported by another pin or the skittle do not count.

  • (optional) If a player does not knock over any pins on three consecutive turns, they are out of that round and become the scorekeeper.

  • (optional) If you have a mix of young kids and adults playing, mark a second “Kids Throwing Line” that is one big step closer to the pins.
