Bocce

In bocce, two individuals or teams are competing to roll their balls closest to the small target ball called the pallina. It’s a tough game to master, but pretty much anyone with enough muscle to roll the ball will enjoy playing.

Number of Players: 2 to 8
Skill Level: Easy to Medium
Energy Level: Easygoing
Playing Area: Formally played on a long rectangular court, but any 10 ft x ~50 ft area of grass will work. It can be especially fun to move from area to area around a park or yard. (MUST be played on grass, sand, or a soft surface. Balls will be damaged if they roll onto sidewalks, driveways, streets, etc.)

Kit contents: 4 red balls, 4 blue balls, 1 pallina (smaller ball)

Cornhole

In cornhole, players try to toss bean bags onto a slanted platform at the other end of the playing area. They can earn additional points if the bean bag goes through the hole in the center. It’s an easy and very popular game to play, but you’ll definitely find a wide range of skill levels. Move the boards closer together (or mark a secondary throwing line) if you’re trying to make it fun for a young kid or a struggling player.

Number of Players: 2 to 4
Skill Level: Easy to Medium
Energy Level: Easygoing
Playing Area: The boards are placed 27’ feet apart, and you’ll need a few feet on either side of them to throw from, so you need ~35’ x 8’ for a full size playing area. That said, you can almost always find a place to play. The boards will play a little nicer if they’re on grass or a rug. But don’t let that stop you from playing in the driveway or a parking lot!

Kit contents: 2 cornhole boards, 4 red bean bags, 4 blue bean bags

Giant 4-in-a-Row

4-in-a-Row is a popular board game that has been super-sized to invite group play. Players take turns dropping in their colored discs and try to get 4-in-a-row vertically, horizontally, or diagonally before their opponent.

Number of Players: 2 individuals or teams
Skill Level: Easy
Energy Level: Very easygoing
Playing Area: Indoor or outdoor, can be placed on the ground or a table

Kit contents: 3’ x 2.5’ game board, 21 red discs, 21 blue discs

Giant Stacking Tower

Giant Stacking Tower has become a staple game at breweries and bars. It’s a great conversation starter and easy for anyone to join in. Players take turns removing blocks from the tower and placing them on the top without causing the tower to fall. As the game progresses, it gets harder and harder to find a block that’s safe to remove.

Number of Players: 2+
Skill Level: Easy
Energy Level: Very easygoing
Playing Area: The kit includes a small platform to build the tower on. Be sure there’s plenty of room around the tower for the blocks to fall safely. And fair warning - it can be very loud when the blocks come crashing down on a hard floor.

Kit contents: Tower blocks, platform

KanJam

KanJam is played in teams of two. On their team’s turn, a player throws the disc toward the bucket at the other end of the playing area where their teammate is waiting to slap the disc into the bucket. Throwing the disc consistently can be a little difficult for some people, but otherwise the game is pretty easy to pick up. The kit includes a few extra discs which allow you to speed up play and add additional teams.

Number of Players: 4 or 6
Skill Level: Medium to High
Energy Level: Moderate
Playing Area: The two buckets are placed 50 feet apart in a regulation game, but feel free to move them closer for less skilled players or smaller spaces.

Kit contents: 2 KanJam buckets, 2 discs

Kubb

Also called Viking Chess, Kubb incorporates little more thought and strategy than many other yard games. This makes it especially fun for team play. Two teams (or individuals) compete to knock over all their opponents kubbs and then take down the king - the large center pin. The twist is that the kubbs are continuously changing sides and creating opportunities for your team to swing the momentum back your way.

Number of Players: 2 to 8
Skill Level: Easy, but takes a little more time to learn the rules
Energy Level: Easygoing
Playing Area: Approximately 30’ x 20’, grass or sand

Kit contents: 6 batons, 10 kubbs, 1 king, 4 corner stakes

Molkky

In Molkky, players take turns tossing the throwing “skittle” underhand toward the numbered pins. The goal of the game is to be the first player or team to reach exactly 50 points. You would think more pins means more points, but that’s not always the case!

Number of Players: 2 or more
Skill Level: Easy
Energy Level: Easygoing
Playing Area: ~10’ x 20’, grass or sand only

Kit contents: 12 numbered pins (1-12), 1 throwing skittle

Spikeball

Spikeball is a high energy game that has become very popular on beaches and college campuses. The rules are similar to volleyball, but rather than hitting the ball over a net back to their opponent, players have three touches to bounce the ball off of a net back to their opponent. Your guests will definitely break a sweat and maybe even pick up a few grass stains playing this game.

Number of Players: 4
Skill Level: Medium to High
Energy Level: High
Playing Area: At least 20’x20’, soft surfaces (grass, sand, turf)

Kit contents: Spikeball net & ball
